All are named for Belgian villages: Groenendael, Laekenois, Mechelar (Malinois) and Tervuren. The Belgian Malinois is one of the varieties of the Belgian shepherd. This breed needs extensive socialization from an early age, and firm, but not harsh, training. He has strong protective and territorial instincts.
